Digital Signage | SJSU Engineering
I built a Digital Signage system for the College of Engineering at San José State University. I built the system using open source tools and an extensible, and easily updatable back-end control system. The Signage can be updated with any web enabled device (including a web enabled phone, like an iPhone). The Signage supports full 1080p video, and is fully web enabled (meaning it can download data from any web service and display it on the signage). The system currently downloads current weather data from yahoo's weather api. The system is heavily integrated with the College of Engineering website, where events can be submitted by any user to the website, and then the same data is displayed on the the signage. The same thing occurs with the news articles submitted to the website. No proprietary pre-built applications or systems, and definitely no powerpoint or anything similar were used.
